ABSTRACT

The expert interview is devoted to discussing the problems of correlation of territory and space in personal cultural experience, and to determining the place and role of the university in preserving and translating the cultural heritage of the city and the region. A geographical location is characterized as an objective constant, while space is formed by human cultural activity and therefore is always dynamic and prospective. At the same time, landscape and culture influence each other; the context of such mutual influence gives way to discussing the existence of different geocultures. The traditions of geocultures can shift together with their carriers, while cultures are open to external influences and internal transformations. These trends characterize Russia as a large cultural space. Local identity is based on the completeness of a personal sense of being in a certain geoculture, in the cultural space of a certain city. The university can transmit in time specific local identity, which is expressed, among other things, in the spatial organization of the urban landscape. Preserving the urban cultural code that underlies the geocultural originality of the territory should become the mission of the university today.
